How to Add, Delete, and Duplicate a Row in Newspaper Theme

One of the essential elements of the Newspaper Theme is a row. It is a container that is used to put every element in coherently, one after the other. This way, it can create different types of layouts. But how does one make the row stretch all across the page or split it into columns? Let’s explore some of the basics in today’s tutorial.

Row, Add, Delete, Duplicate

Open a page or template with the tagDiv Composer. It can be either imported straight from the Cloud Library or crafted from scratch. Now, whenever you scroll upon various elements, you can see a blue bar appear at the top of the row with a few options.

  • If you click on the row button, it will open the General Settings tab for that row.
  • The next icon duplicates the current row with all of its content and settings.
  • The column button behaves the same as the row button.
  • Whichever element you’re scrolling over can be opened by clicking on the element button.
  • You can also duplicate the element with the second icon in the bar.
  • The last icon deletes the current element you’re scrolling over.

These icons are essential for everyday basic functionality. Acquaint yourself with them, and things will become much more manageable while editing and crafting a beautiful page.

To delete a row, you can also scroll over the row button, click on it and drag it to the bottom-right corner of the page. A delete pop-up will appear, asking you to confirm the deletion. The same can be done for the column and any element on the page.

General Settings tab

Let’s explore the first few options you can see when opening the row settings:

General Settings for Rows
  • The Layout lets you split the row into multiple columns. Just click on the icon, and you can see the changes happening live.
  • Columns gap lets you increase or decrease the space between columns. All you need to do is write down a number in the box.
  • “Vertical align” adjusts the position of the content. From left to right, the icons adjust the content to the top, middle or bottom.
  • The Full height option makes the row have a set value in height.
  • If you check the “hide on pagination” box on templates that require multiple pages (such as Category pages), the row will be hidden.
  • The “Add Parallax” option applies only if you have a background image set on the row. It will move the image slowly up and down as you scroll past the row.
  • With the “turn off bg transition” checked, when the page loads in, if you have a background image set on the row, it loads instantly and won’t gradually fade in.
  • A fixed background image stays in a fixed position when the user scrolls down the page.
  • Choose colors and create a beautiful background with the background gradient.
  • The Shadow properties allow you to give the row its own shadow. The first setting lets you input the size of it. Whereas the next two options lets you offset it vertically, and horizontally. Next up is the spread – this measures how far the shadow should go. And lastly, you get to choose the color of it.

YouTube & Sticky Rows

The last few options left are the YouTube ID, class, and making the row sticky.

Video Background Settings for Rows
  • If you check the “Sticky” checkbox, the row keeps being displayed even if you scroll past it. The dropdown menu lets you choose whether it should be shown at the top or bottom of the page.
  • To give your row more life, you can add a YouTube ID in the box that will play a YouTube video automatically, muted, on loop. Pick the YouTube video you want to display and copy & paste the numbers and letters that come after watch?v=
  • You can also choose to start the video at a set time by inputting the number of seconds in the box.
  • If you want to increase the size of the video, use the scale box.
  • The opacity slider controls how visible the overall video will be.

Row Stretch

One of the most critical features for a row is its stretch capabilities. A row can stretch all the way across the page horizontally. That is something you can do through the tagDiv Composer using the stretch row dropdown menu. When you first click on it, you can see the various options presented to you:

Stretch Row Dropdown menu
  • Default is 1080 pixels wide, and if you set a background color, it will be constrained within those pixels.
  • The stretch row keeps the 1080 pixels width but allows the background image / color to stretch across the page horizontally.
  • Stretch row and 1200px/1400px/1600px/1800px content adjust the row according to those sizes written.
  • Stretch row and content allow you to expand the row until it hits the left and right margins of the screen.

You also get the option to “stretch row off.” Once you hit this checkbox, you can see the background color stretch to the left and right sides of the screen. This works in the same way the “Stretch Row” option does.

Background Image

Just as we’ve seen above, you can add background images and have the image not change position while scrolling down or gradually move up and down with parallax. However, how do you add a background image on the row? For that, we need to travel to the CSS tab.

Under the CSS tab, you will first meet the varying options for margins and paddings.

Settings for Rows: Margins and Paddings

Each box refers to a different thing. The outermost boxes are the margins of the element, in this case, the row’s margins. The second most row, the one in the middle, is the border. Suppose you want to add a border spanning all the way across the row, you would need to input a number in each of the four second most boxes. The inner ones are padding.

Underneath all of that, you can choose the style and color of the border. However, what we’re interested in, lies even further below that: the background image. If you click on the background image option, it lets you choose a photo from the media Library or upload a new one entirely. Keep in mind, if the row is stretched horizontally (using the options mentioned above) the image needs to be large enough so that it maintains its high quality.

Background Image Options

Background style lets you choose how the image behaves with a dropdown menu:

Background Image for Rows
  • Cover makes the image cover the entirety of the row, stretching it in various directions.
  • Contain shrinks or enlarges the image down to the height of the row.
  • No repeat places the image into the row without stretching it in any direction.
  • Repeat duplicates the image so that it spans all across the row.

The background position dropdown menu affects the image placement so that it shows the middle, the bottom or even the top of it using the background style settings.

And the last background image option is the background opacity. If you’ve chosen an image, you can lower the image’s opacity so that it only shows a bit of it, like a silhouette.

Row Layout & Divider

There are two more tabs when you open a row: the Divider and Layout tabs. The Divider lets you place a vector on the background of the row, creating various shapes to attract the viewer’s interest. Heaps of various geometrical forms can be achieved and maintain the contrast between different elements on the page. If you want to learn more about it, we have a Divider Tutorial on our blog.

The Layout tab covers many new features that affect the way your content is shown on the page. You can adjust the content within a column to display differently compared to the rest. Modify the order of columns for various devices, adjust the width of the row and columns, and plenty more. To explore these features, we suggest reading more about the Layout Options on our blog.

Conclusion

Now that we’ve explored all the varying degrees with which you can diversify and create interesting layouts using the rows in Newspaper Theme, it’s time to put this knowledge to good use. Open the tagDiv Composer and let your imagination run wild. Design something entirely new, filled with inspiration and creativity! Show us your best results in the comment box below.

The Perfect Newspaper Copywriting Tips to Improve Your Blog Strategy

4

Every article starts with a blank page. You want to fill it with appealing and interesting content to deliver valuable information. This way, your visitors will always return to find more entertaining content on your website. But how would you start writing an article? With the basics, of course.

You probably already have an idea of who your public is and what’s your purpose. What do you want your readers to find on your site? In this article, I’ll show you how to create an article with the Newspaper theme and how to customize a single post template. Also, I’ll tell you some of my copywriting rules I follow when writing up an article for the blog. It’s important to notice here that a copywriter needs to see the full picture of a website and that these copywriting tips also apply all over the site. The whole vibe has to be the same, whether your visitors land on the homepage, blog area, or about us section. Furthermore, make sure you’re using the same fonts, tones, call to action, and trust messages.

How People Will Read Your Story

Visitors scan. They don’t read everything and do not analyze each word or detail of your article. That’s why it’s essential to structure your article and use visuals to get the most out of the post. Now that you know this, you also have to understand that a copywriter is more than just a person that writes-up nice articles. He is a good researcher, a great text-director (likely as a cast director/film-maker), and also sees the whole scene, including visual elements and content flow.

“Copywriting is more than simply writing words on a page. Good copywriting is when you strategically create, optimize, and publish content that builds brand awareness and guides customers to convert and buy from you, ” says StrategyBeam.

Described as the creative art of convincing people to perform an action, copywriting is everything from the art of writing text ads, promotions, to engaging customers with professional content.

Design Your Articles with the Newspaper Theme

The Newspaper WordPress theme is entirely customizable. The tagDiv Composer page builder and the tagDiv Cloud Library give you the opportunity to design pages, as well as articles right on the frontend of your WordPress site.

The first thing is to install a PRO demo and set up a Single Post Template to outline your articles. These are the steps you should follow:

1. Install WordPress, Newspaper Theme, and activate all the required plugins.

2. Open an article on the frontend using the tagDiv Composer page builder. Click on the tagDiv Cloud Library and select a Single Post Template. There are plenty of amazing already-created designs that can fit your beautiful stories and make them even more appealing.

3. Hit the “Create Template” button and preview your page. open tagDiv Composer and easily customize your Single Post Template.

4. To apply this template globally, you need to click on the Single Post Template near the Cloud Library and hit the checkbox to make it a global one. Moreover, you can also select the pen to rename your Single Post Template.

5. If you have more single post templates and you want to decide for each article another design, you can always add a new post, open it on the frontend and import the desired template from the Cloud Library.

6. Now it’s time to add your content, hit the Save button, and view your article.

7. It’s so easy to make modifications to your Single Post Templates, and, if it’s applied globally, all your articles will have the same design.

How to Structure an Article on Your Newspaper Website

So, now it’s time to include your content in a new post. Write an appealing title that will get the Heading 1 formatting. Your article should consist of heading 2 subtitles, heading 3, or heading 4. It’s important to use bullets or numbering to give a great balance to your content. Don’t forget to include media files to make your story an attractive and credible one. And… use a readable font. Vista Print has listed the most readable fonts, and Georgia, Verdana, Robot, or Lata are just some of the lovely suggestions. Moreover, write your article with SEO in mind. Start your story around the main keyword. For example, if you’re writing a post about the best mobile devices to use in 2021, make sure to use the keyword “best mobile devices” (in case you have not used the same main keyword before.)

I decided to apply this to a post of about 2000 words and show exactly how to structure an article on your Newspaper website. First of all, add the heading 1 – the title. Add the introduction paragraph. Now, write the first subtitle and explain everything about this subject in three paragraphs. For a complex structure, add three (or more) heading 3 subtitles, an introductory paragraph, followed by a bulleted list explaining the most important aspects.

Now, write another heading 2 as well as three more paragraphs and conclude the article. Add the featured image and the image content to balance the text and give more credibility to it. If you’re also doing SEO on your site, it’s important to mention here that you should pay attention to a few details. Before uploading media content, make sure they have an accurate filename. Now, after inserting them in your post, add relevant ALT text description. Done! Preview your article and make the adjustments if there are any 🙂

Copywriting Exercises

I know you’re talented. Most of the time you write naturally, and don’t think about the technical part. That every action performed to create a piece of writing actually has a name. Also, you don’t want to cope with writer’s block. If you want to avoid it, you should practice and create your own routine. Below, I’ve listed some of the best exercises and guidelines, so you can have a clear starting point.

  • Set a timer. For instance, this helps you see how long it takes for you to write an article of 800 words so you can best estimate your timing.
  • Read the article out loudly. When you work too much on a copy, you don’t see the mistakes anymore. If you’ll read the article yourself or use a software like ReadAloud by Microsoft that does it for you, you’ll get a new perspective over the text.
  • Present readers the benefits instead of features. For example, if your site is about tech, and you’re writing a new article on a freshly released smartphone that uses an advanced camera, you should present how this will improve the experience of taking images & videos.
  • Use a few negative formulations/statements. “Negation of ideas can have paradoxical effects, possibly leading the listener to believe that the negated ideas actually existed,” noted Dr. hab. Józef Maciuszek & Romuald Polczyk in their psychology article published on PLOS.  For example, rather than saying,“I do not like horror movies,” you could say, “I prefer watching comedies instead of horror movies.”
  • Learn and experiment how to research properly.
  • Seek for inspiration
  • Cut unnecessary text parts and restructure
  • Use active voice instead of passive voice
  • Use formatting to structure your article
  • Compare and analyze. What people appreciate the most is the evidence. Give as many examples as you can.
  • In the introduction, try to summarize the whole article in a short sentence
  • Practice new headlines daily. Blogging Wizard has a comprehensive guide on copywriting formulas that can help you write appealing headlines.
  • Use leads in your introduction
  • Keep in mind that readers are curiosity seekers
  • Use the reciprocity principle in your writing
  • Be consistent with your ideas and deliver what you’ve promised in the introduction
  • Use social proof to strengthen your digital presence (because, let’s face it, copywriting is a digital marketing “component.”)
  • Empathy. Do you resonate with your article? What do you feel while reading it? Which are the situations that you had in mind when writing the copy?
  • Human behavior – you’re actually writing for humans, so a bit of knowledge about how people behave and some psychological facts will definitely help you in this journey.
  • Understand the principles of persuasion and use at least one of reciprocity, scarcity, authority, consistency, linking, consensus principles when you write.

Moreover, besides the above hacks, you should definitely read different books and get even more copywriting tips. On JacobMcmillen, you’ll find the best 30 books’ suggestions that range from subjects like copywriting, human behavior, to marketing, and advertising. Seth Godin, Ann Handley, Chip & Dan Heath, and others have based their books on real examples and personal experiences.

What’s Your Copywriting Purpose?

These are just a few strategies that you can use daily to strengthen your writing skills and copywriting efforts. Be a better you in this digital era! You know you got talent. Someone asked me recently how often he should write on the blog about his services. The answer is simple: daily. Practice a lot and find the balance between content, images, videos, typography, colors, negative space. Incorporate emotions within your copy and emphasize with your readers. Moreover, you’re writing for the online environment. This means you’re also an SEO copywriter. You’re writing pieces of content that you want to be easily discoverable on SERP. Discover more about the importance of well-done SEO strategies and how to avoid common mistakes. Site’s speed, headline, content, meta descriptions, keyword frequency, page linking – everything matters.

Design Trends: The Symbolic Union of Ultimate Gray & Illuminating 2021

6

With the new year sneaking up on us (haha, not really, let’s be honest about it, we’ve been waiting for this!), Pantone has released their Colors of the Year 2021 in a public announcement.

A symbolic union between two colors: the ever stable, neutral shade, Ultimate Gray and its playful, optimistic counterpart, Illuminating. Now, how does this impact the year 2021? Let’s answer that question by exploring the significance of the colors above and how to best implement them into your new design projects.

monochromatic scheme illuminating and ultimate gray

Illuminating & Ultimate Gray

As warm as the color of the sun, Illuminating is a powerful yellow color that brings joy to everyone around. During the 17th century France, the Age of Enlightenment, yellow was seen as the color that shed light upon people’s ignorance. Nowadays, the color seems to be mostly associated with joy, energy, and positivity. A burst of happiness, one would say.

In contrast to that, Ultimate Gray is a relatively sober color, usually associated with sadness and even negativity in some cases. Gray is a dull color, but it’s always been a reliable one. As a neutral shade, it creates a perfect foundation just like how people used to make their homes out of pebbles, rocks, which were… gray! Moreover, more and more people opt for minimalist lifestyles, and for example, Ultimate Gray is a color that dominates home design and creates great contrasts between white walls, wood elements, and more.

This union between a stable and an optimistic color is what Pantone wants the outlook of 2021 to be. After the tumultuous year of 2020, embracing what we currently have and striving for the world’s betterment and others is an ideal, a goal, a solution. Falling in line perfectly with Pantone’s view of the situation: “The union of an enduring Ultimate Gray with the vibrant yellow Illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude. Practical and rock-solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a colour combination that gives us resilience and hope. We need to feel encouraged and uplifted; this is essential to the human spirit.”

A joyful color scheme

Color Schemes & Inspiration

Whether you plan on using the hues separately or together, you need to know some color combinations. If you’re new to this, you can always check out our tutorial on Color Theory to get a better understanding of the basics. First of all, let’s tackle the colors separately.

For Illuminating, we have the analogous & monochromatic schemes, which involve using different shades of yellow. Analogous uses colors that are very close neighbours to the yellow, whereas monochromatic just ups the yellow contrast. The color complementary to it is a dark shade of violet-blue. Triad relies on creating a beautiful union between Illuminating, cyan, and a deep shade of pink-purple.

When we approach Ultimate Gray with the same situation, we have an easier time as it is a neutral shade. It technically goes with every color. So monochromatic, analogous, triad, and complementary schemes all use different shades of gray.

Keeping everything in mind about the colors themselves, you can make a beautiful combination between Illuminating & Ultimate Gray . All you would need is some inspiration. For this, you can always use Adobe Color to explore different shades. Moreover, Pantone offered some color schemes for the Colors of the Year 2021 that you can also check out. Sticking to more shades of gray and different hues of yellow is a good starting point. You could also add cyan and violet in between the yellow and gray to create a bold, enjoyable look. Let your inspiration run wild and create a unique design!

Website design with Ultimate Gray & Illuminating

Design Motives with Newspaper Theme

Before embarking on a new design project, please choose the color scheme you want to work with and stick with it. Whether you’re creating a new website or just modifying something you already own, you can freshen it up and reveal a whole new look. Since Newspaper Theme allows users to craft everything on the front-end, take inspiration from your favorite websites to start designing!

Here are a few suggestions for the people who want more than that and are waiting for examples. Change the background color to the row by going into the “CSS” tab and picking out the hex code for Illuminating, which is, by the way, #F5DF4D. Now change the text color for your Flex Blocks or any other items in the row to Ultimate Gray, which has the hex code #939597.

That’s a sure-fire way to spruce up your page! However, if you something a little bit different, you could also create highlights with Illuminating on gray backgrounds. This could be applied in so many ways depending on whether you opted to use any other colors as well.

A more somber look for your website

Let’s recap

With all the things going on during 2020, it might have been hard to focus on creating something bright, bubbly, blissful. Now with the new year upon us, 2021 might just be the year to turn everything back around. With all hands on deck, let’s embrace the present and hold steadfast onto what we have, what we want, and what we wish for. The tagDiv Team wishes you all a better 2021 and hopes to see your future website projects in the comment box below! (Hint: link your pages & templates that you’ve designed with the colors of the year 2021 Illuminating & Ultimate Gray in the comments)

SEO Mistakes to Avoid: Your Search Engine Optimization Guide to Streamline Your Efforts

11

Digital marketing is an integral part of any company, no matter the size or the industry. As long as the business has an online presence, we’re talking about digital marketing in various forms. All of the marketing efforts are strongly engaged by content and creative thinking. And, if you take the time to create content, you surely must deploy an SEO strategy and various tactics.

In this article, we’ll look into how the SEO changed over the years. Furthermore, I want to present the structure of a well-done search engine optimization, the most effective tools to streamline your content and its visibility in SERP, SEO, and popular mistakes you should avoid.

Keyword Search

How SEO strategies evolved in time

Search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo, Baidu, or Yandex are content lovers. Also, they use algorithms that are constantly renewed and impact the way they see websites. This means that digital marketers have to keep up with these changes and regularly review their tactics. Let’s see which were the best SEO approaches through the years, since this term was first used sometimes in 1997.

SEO, today known as Search Engine Optimization, used to be recognized as “search engine placement,” “search engine positioning,” “search engine ranking,” “search engine registration,” “search engine submission,” and “search engine marketing,” as Search Engine Journal notes in their brief SEO history article.

Short SEO History

Back then, there were many search engines, such as Ask Jeeves, Infoseek, Yahoo, Lycos, and others. Some of them were human-operated listings, while others were crawler-based search engines. Bing, Google, Yandex are that kind of search engines, and they have developed their own software and algorithms to provide fast responses from huge search databases. Mojeek’s blog states that the crawler-based search engines are called this way due to the fact that “the software produced crawls the web like a spider, automatically updating and adding new pages to its search index as it goes.”

Yahoo was launched in 1994 as a bookmark list and directory that hosted websites people manually had to upload. When someone performed a search, Yahoo delivered the relevant piece of information, from the pages previously submitted in the directory. In 1996 was released the Backrub search engine that used links to sort sites by relevance and popularity on the web. As a side-note, the Backrub search engine was renamed Google and soon was sponsored by Silicon Valley investors. Back in 1997 appeared Ask Jeeves and the website Search Engine Watch that used to publish “research about search engines,” as highlighted by Wikipedia’s page on the technologist Danny Sullivan. In 1998 appeared another search engine, called Goto.com, and the sponsored links & paid search era began. Danny Sullivan was the first tech guy to organize an SEO conference in 1999, and he wrote everything about it in his 10 year retrospective on Search Engine Land.

Google Search Quick Roadmap

So, the basics: listings, directories, inbound and outbound linking, sponsored backlinks, and paid search are the breadcrumbs left by creative minds that lead to the one and only Google back in the 2000s. Google was the first search engine to analyze on-page and off-page aspects, the used anchor text, and the quantity & quality of internal and external links.

You can find more information by reading the full story about Google and its founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Back then, there was the Google Toolbar, and the web owners had the possibility of seeing their Page Rank score, which was a number from 0 to 10. Nowadays, we use the Alexa extension to see the global and country ranks. With millions of websites out there, it’s quite a race to acquire a top position. By launching AdWords and AdSense, Google improved its algorithm to deliver people personalized search results. On the other hand, web authors strive to create well-structured content, place links, and get backlinks. Starting with 2007, the Google updates began to focus more on the user experience, and search results started to show as images, videos, and news as well.

Today, you can browse search results based on maps, shopping, books, flights, or finance categories. If you’re wondering how many ranking factors exist, well, there’s not a real proof in this direction, but Search Engine Journal pulled together 11 important ranking facts

Everything is Going Mobile

On top of that, with a mobile devices’ industry growing and the search users’ number increasing, Google is continuously improving its mobile search algorithm. Website owners also have to maintain their sites fully responsive, as smartphone users are on the rise. Statista has recently published on its site that “the number of smartphone users worldwide today surpasses three billion and is forecast to further grow by several hundred million in the next few years. China, India, and the United States are the countries with the highest number of smartphone users, with each country easily surpassing the 100 million user mark.” Google indexes websites from all over the world, built with distinct technologies that are responsive or not.

Different Website Frameworks, Different SEO Tools

For example, when your website is built with WordPress, you would need a reliable WordPress SEO plugin. If you design your site with Wix, Drupal, Joomla, or by using HTML, Javascript & CSS, the SEO tools are distinct ones. However, on any website building-type, content is still the king. Without quality content, no matter how many SEO efforts you make, Google is not going to rank your website high.

WIX

According to WebsiteBuilderExpert, “Wix is excellent if you’re not completely comfortable with SEO. Its built-in support and advice makes it a fantastic way of learning the basics, and advanced techniques can still be used once you feel more comfortable with the process.” You can check out the full Wix SEO review here and see if this is what you’re looking out for.

Drupal

Drupal CMS focuses on the possibility of adding modules to help you gain the needed SEO functionality. The Ultimate Drupal SEO Guide for 2020 article by Open Sense Labs talks about the modules provided by Drupal that allow you to do SEO on your website.

Joomla

Divided into on-page and off-page SEO, Joomla SEO Extension includes several tools (think of them as plugins) such as EFSEO, Sh404sef (which they advise is similar to the Yoast SEO people use on WordPress), and many more. JoomlaShine has published an in-depth guide into the Joomla SEO practices.

HTML

Regardless of the most popular CMS, there are people that are good at coding and want to create a website from scratch by themselves. This involves hours of development and strong programming skills. Besides the CMS and the themes that are constantly updated, an HTML-designed website requires more attention to the details, as it can be easily ruined if you don’t know your way around. Every SEO aspect is handled within code. WebFX has outlined some great tips into their “SEO for HTML websites” article.

Why is WordPress SEO a must-have?

Because a good SEO strategy helps your website to stand out in front of others in the SERP. All of the mentioned CMS are great opportunities to launch your website. Either you call them modules, extensions, plugins, all of them might negatively impact your page speed. If you have content editors that write article pieces and publish on your site with regularity, they usually do SEO themselves. Or, you have someone designated to do it. Either way, it’s best to have an intuitive interface to work with, to fill-in the existing boxes.

In addition to all the above, WordPress is the CMS leader in the blogging industry, with professionals contributing to deliver the best solutions and user experiences. Popular brands choose WordPress to build their sites, and they constantly publish quality content consolidated by strong SEO strategies to keep them among the first spots in Google ranking. WordPress is a flexible platform that allows you to install an already-made free or premium theme and additional plugins for extra functionality.

WordPress themes’ authors focus more and more on delivering a full product without the need for tons of plugins that usually clutter your website. In the end, everyone wants a fast page loading website, returning visitors, and a place in front of others. You can check out the WP Beginner’s complete introduction into the technical WordPress SEO part. Besides setting your WordPress website SEO basics, you would need an SEO plugin to rely on. The most popular one is Yoast SEO, which comes with both free and premium versions. Having it installed on your site ensures a great user experience, as it gives you real-time tips on how to optimize on-page SEO and the Readability score. However, there are other SEO plugins out there for you to explore.

An SEO Structure Explained

Did you know that SEO has some features that need to be hierarchically arranged? Furthermore, there are more things to take care of than just some tweaks to make on a blog article.

How to Organize Your Main URL

The main URL of your site usually has to contain your business name, which becomes the main SEO keyword that strengthens every page, category, or post of your website. There are also plenty of websites without their business name in the domain, but there’s no need to worry about it, as you can focus your SEO efforts on your pages.

Title Tags

Usually, a title tag contains your brand’s name and is short using a maximum of 60 characters. How can you add it to your website? It is a piece of coding information you must place within <title> tags inside the <head> section of your site. Title tags do have importance in your Google page ranking.

Understand how Search Function Works

Meta Descriptions

As the name suggests, this is the aspect you need to outline the best about your website. With a maximum of 160 characters, the meta description is a descriptive paragraph about your business that people can preview after typing your site’s name into the search engine. It’s said that meta descriptions do not impact your page ranking, but they give visibility to your business, and people will instantly know if your site is what they’re looking out for. Also, this way, your site’s bounce rate won’t be affected. Neil Patel has a comprehensive article on the meta description best practices.

How to properly do Keyword research

Keyword research is different for every business. Still, the method is the same for any industry. There are free or premium tools you can use to improve your keyword research strategy. But first, your site must be indexed by Google, and then, a first step would be to check out your Google Search Console stats. Even if you’re optimizing SEO on pages and articles, people’s naturally typed words & expressions (search queries) are driving them to your website. How they land on your site might be inspiring for them. Google Keyword Planner, Semrush, or Ahrefs platforms are some of the best research tools out there. They help you analyze your competitors and choose the most related keywords to your business. However, you should check out the search volumes for the chosen keywords. The higher the search volume, the harder it will be to rank in front of other websites. This is an important reason why you should avoid making SEO mistakes and focus on the best practices right from the start.

Long-Tail keywords

This type of keywords allows you to tell searchers more about your website. Short keywords with high search volumes can negatively impact your site on SERP.  Moz has indicated that “keywords with very high search volumes may even indicate ambiguous intent, which, if you target these terms, it could put you at risk for drawing visitors to your site whose goals don’t match the content your page provides.” I totally resonate with this and recommend you to use long-tail keywords that characterize your blog or website. This way, you’ll get the audience you’re seeking for.

Link Building

Google algorithm loves content and how many websites are linked to a quality piece of content. This gains a lot in a site’s page ranking score. With this in mind, you have nothing else to do than getting creative with your link building campaigns. Since the web is full of misleading and spamming links, you must get busy and deeply analyze the website domain scores, as well as the global rankings. You’ll definitely want some backlinks from high authority websites that will have a positive impact instead of a negative one. A backlink from a site with a DA score close to 0 can ruin your plan to rank as a top website in Google Search Result Page, while an overall DA score above 70 can indeed contribute to a higher spot in the SERP. Backlinko’s guide on the sitewide authority, link relevancy, and position of the links inside your website.

SEO Mistakes We Often See in 2020

We know it’s hard to keep up with everything changing in the SEO industry. Still, the SEO techniques must be used at their best if you want to keep growing your brand in 2020. However, there are some SEO aspects that people keep doing wrong. Here’s a list with the most frequently SEO mistakes to avoid.

  1. Content that is not well-targeted, even if it’s well written. Pay special attention to the audience search intent.
  2. Knowing nothing about the Google BERT search model, which is a natural language processing open-source network. Use modern SEO tactics to help BERT deliver quality search results also based on the context (not only on keyword staffing). This is a win-win scenario for both your site and the audience.
  3. Not using structured data for different types of content on your site.
  4. Missing branded anchor-text links.
  5. Videos, podcasts, and images also appear in SERP and are a great SEO method. Still not using them in 2020?
  6. Your websites are not responsive yet.
  7. Not using any bulleted or numbered lists.
  8. Writing short headings instead of long, explicit ones, or not using enough headings to structure your content.
  9. Not utilizing keyword variations within the content.
  10. Not creating useful content for a great linking distribution.
  11. Missing ALT attributes from the images.
  12. Duplicate H1 tags, title tags, or duplicate content.
  13. Not optimizing your site with the right keywords.
  14. Ignoring HTTP status or critical server related issues.
  15. Not optimizing internal & external link optimization.

SEO is One of the Best Content Marketing Approaches

People use Search Engines to find out the information they’re looking for quickly. Furthermore, they’ve become dependent on SERP just the way they’re dependent on their smartphones. With the evolving tech innovations, we don’t even have to use computers anymore to Google search something. SERPS answer daily queries, and there’s plenty of information about, basically, everything. Content is still the king, but without using all the techniques and avoiding the SEO mistakes, tools, and features we’ve highlighted here (and others we’ve not written about in here), it won’t be useful or discoverable on search.

Newspaper 10.3.7 Update Brings Customizable and Fast Mobile Pages

The Newspaper 10.3.7 update brings you new tools to craft beautiful pages for mobile devices. We know how important mobile pages are for your audiences. They must be responsive and the content adapted to the small screens. This time, we’ve redesigned and rethink the way you were creating your pages for mobile devices. You can now build mobile pages and upload only the elements that are really necessary, without showing the full menu, and with all the shortcodes within your grasp. Let’s demonstrate how easy it is to create and customize mobile pages with the Newspaper theme, right on the frontend of your site!

Edit the Mobile Page

Newspaper Mobile Web Design & Customizability

With the tagDiv Composer page builder, you have now unlimited customization possibilities to design mobile pages. Until today, it was not possible to build mobile pages from scratch, with their own shortcodes, without all the elements shown on desktop. Newspaper 10.3.7. update allows you to create pages specially-crafted for mobile screens with stunning flexibility, and this will improve your overall page speed and page usability.

With the new way of creating mobile pages, you’ll definitely have the most appealing and fully-functional website. The freedom of customizing mobile pages to your liking will boost your UX and UI results. It’s the same website, but whole new experience for your visitors. It is not enough to ensure a responsive and adaptive website design that automatically resizes the content of a page or post. Starting with the Newspaper 10.3.7 version, you can mix and match elements for the mobile pages live, right on the frontend of your site.

How to Create a Mobile Page with tagDiv Composer

If you want to create a new mobile page, you first have to go on the website’s frontend and choose a particular page or template to edit. The main functionality of the new mobile page system can be found at the top of the screen, near the “Edit with TagDiv Composer” tab, and it is called “Mobile Page .” Here’s an example of how this should look:

No Mobile Page

If you click on the “Mobile Page No mobile page” tab and the page does not have a mobile version, then it will appear the following message “No mobile page, please import or create a new mobile page

A new mobile page can be created by pressing the + icon at the right of the mobile page section. The newly created mobile page is blank by default, but you can check the Copy Content box below the mobile page name and hit the Create button. This option is going to copy the whole desktop content and paste it automatically into the new mobile page for easier content manipulation. Then, if you’ll open the dropdown, all the existing mobile pages for this page in particular will appear one beneath the other.

Furthermore, if you’re currently editing a page with the tagDiv Composer page builder, you can easily build a mobile template or just edit it. Below the tagDiv Composer menu, you have the page breadcrumbs, and two important sections called Edit and Create Mobile Template

All the mobile templates that you’ve created can be found in the WordPress Admin Dashboard; you’ll see the mobile pages in the pages sections, and the mobile templates in the  Cloud Templates.

If you open the backend of your Newspaper website and navigate to the Pages area, you’ll see two new columns added. The Mobile Page column shows if a particular page or template has a mobile page assigned or not to it, while the Mobile Template column informs you what type of page it is (mobile or not).

How to Edit The Mobile Pages

If you are on the frontend of your website and open a specific page, you have to navigate to the top of the page and click on the “Mobile Page ” tab to open the dropdown. When you hover over the wanted template, you can edit the mobile page by using the small pencil button next to the mobile page name.

Click the Pencil Icon to edit

Once you press the pencil button, you will be redirected to tagDiv Composer in the editing mode. From here you can add, remove, and adjust the block elements you want to show on your mobile pages.

Header and Footer for Mobile Pages

Every website should have a top and bottom area. This is the nicest way to say hello and say goodbye to your visitors. Headers and footers on mobile devices should be just as appealing as the ones from your website’s desktop versions. With Newspaper Theme and the Website Manager within the tagDiv Composer page builder it’s easy to select or import a header and footer for your new mobile page.

WordPress Plugins Compatible with the Newspaper and Newsmag WordPress Themes

tagDiv themes have been developed with performance in mind, with every feature having a well-established purpose. Newspaper or Newsmag themes give you the possibility of building everything you were always trying to achieve with your website. The Newspaper and Newsmag WordPress themes come with required plugins and optional ones included, such as tagDiv Composer, tagDiv Cloud Library, tagDiv Social Counter, tagDiv AMP, Revolution Slider, and more. Besides the plugins that come bundled with the news themes (for which you do not have to pay extra money), there are some standalone plugins that are compatible with the tagDiv themes. In the WordPress > Dashboard, you can see the list of the plugins compatible with the Newspaper Theme, respectively, with the Newsmag theme.

Both themes are fully customizable and come with flexible, intuitive features. Sometimes this is not enough, and customers want to extend the themes’ functionality by installing different plugins regardless if they are tested or not with Newspaper or Newsmag. In this article, we’ll take a look into what exactly is the plugin compatibility, the ups and downs, as well as the recommended and tested plugins that work seamlessly with the Newspaper theme and Newsmag theme.

What Plugin Compatibility Really Means?

Standalone plugins, similar to the themes, are developed and improved by their authors. Based on their activity and customer feedback, some of them are more often updated. Also, on the market, you could find free and premium plugins to install on your WordPress website. The free plugins that also have a premium version are more likely to be a reliable software addition to your website. “Ensuring plugin compatibility is essential to protect your site and help your plugins work together to bring the best user experience on your site. Compatibility is also important for any plugins you purchase and upload the file to your admin dashboard,” notes Bluehost in their how to check the plugins’ compatibility with your website.

Before we release any update of our Newspaper theme or Newsmag theme on Envato ThemeForest market, our development and support teams are testing the themes with the latest versions of the recommended plugins. Newspaper and Newsmag are optimized to integrate out-of-the-box with the following 13 plugins:

WP Super Cache

Contact Form 7

Why You Should Use the Tested Plugins

Every website owner wants his website to perform at its very best. But what happens when something goes wrong? When you’ve worked a lot to write great content, mix and match elements on the frontend to get the wanted results, and after you save the page, something isn’t right. You’ll say that the elements are rearranged and that the tagDiv Composer keeps loading, so you’ll assume that the theme is doing it, while this is all about a plugin conflict that was not tested with our theme. Do you think it’s a singular situation? Not really. This can happen every time you install a new untested plugin.

According to recent Kinsta WordPress statistics, there are over 55,000 plugins in the WordPress directory. Besides, there are the ones that are outside the WordPress repository and are available in free or premium versions.

Compatibility between plugins

What Can Untested Plugins Do on Your Website?

Plugins that are not tested with our WordPress themes can ruin your website and all the work you’ve invested in it. We’ve made a list of the most common sceneries you wouldn’t want to happen to you and your site. Untested plugins can:

  • cause conflicts with the tagDiv Composer page builder and the tagDiv Cloud Library
  • crash your website and give multiple errors
  • grant site access for hackers, if plugins are not constantly updated
  • the support team behind a WordPress plugin cannot provide support if a theme has not been fully tested with the plugin. In this case, both us or the plugin’s support team cannot assist you with technical issues.
  • change how a feature works, but in a distinct way than other plugins.
  • might be developed to work with a different WordPress version.
  • be poorly-designed or badly coded.
  • overlap with plugins already installed on your site.

In case you have untested plugins installed on your Newspaper or Newsmag websites and encounter an issue that is not related to our WordPress themes, we recommend you to use another environment to deactivate all your plugins and install the required plugins. Reactivate other plugins one by one and test your website on the frontend to see when the unusual situation appears.

What If I Really Need an Untested Plugin? What Should I Do?

There are cases when you might need to use an untested plugin with tagDiv themes. You could send us an email, and we’ll add it to the list of plugins and test it with the Newspaper or Newsmag themes. This action will take a while, because we receive multiple requests, and choose the ones that are most popular. Meanwhile, you could create a staging WordPress website or a testing copy of the live website, and install the plugin to test it out. If the tested plugin works as expected with our themes, you can move it to the live website.

Conclusion

We know that WordPress plugins give you extra functionality and that you may tend to use multiple ones, even if you do not necessarily need them. The multitude and variety of plugins can also ruin your site’s overall performance, security, reliability, and speed. Some good practices advise you never to exceed 20 plugins installed on your website and use a maximum of five if your website is on cloud or shared hosting. However, there are reputable websites using many more plugins that are all compatible with their database, resources, and HTTPS requests; and still maintain the website’s performance at high standards. This depends on how good you are with technical stuff.

A site design

Custom Solutions by tagDiv Software Company

We have designed several pages to list our services and show you some of our projects. Let’s get a better understanding of them.

Basic WordPress & Plugins

Some people are just starters in the online environment or non-techies. Also, there are clients that do not have the time to do these operations themselves. A basic WordPress install means taking a few steps before facing the Internet and its users. You have to create a database on a server, upload the WordPress CMS package on your hosting account, set up the wp-config.php, and run the installation via localhost or the network IP address. After WordPress is up and running with the right parameters, you’ll need a theme. Usually, people opt for the Newsmag theme or Newspaper WordPress theme because we constantly update and improve our products. Furthermore, when opting for one of our themes, we’ll also install one of the theme’s demo designs of your choice.

Then, of course, comes the importance of having plugins to extend the functionality. First of all, stands the required plugin installation. Then, the enhanced functionality plugins; for example, if you want to do SEO, you’ll need a plugin (that has to be installed and tailored to provide the necessary performance). Another example would be a plugin to make your website multilingual; a caching plugin; or a security plugin. The examples are many and can vary due to your preferences. The choice is yours, depending on what exactly you would like to achieve with your website. For the full list of actions included, you should check out the web design and WordPress services page.

Web Design & Content Management

If you’re having lots of content and images, but your site’s bounce rate is high, and you don’t get returning visitors, it is time to take care of your UI and UX. It means that people can’t find their way around your website or don’t like how your site looks, so they don’t give your great content a chance. Making your site an appealing one, with the perfect colors, buttons, typefaces, and an intuitive menu will definitely help you reach out to more people. The tagDiv web design and content services are ready to provide professional solutions to redesign or design your site from scratch.

Migration Services

Migrating a web service application between different environments (or from a test to a live site, or content of an old website to a new one) involves deployment configuration knowledge, programming language, and more skills. Here at tagDiv, we’re empowered to:

  • Migrate your website from another CMS/HTML to WordPress.
  • Migrate your old content to the new cutting-edge technology.
  • Transfer your website to a new server and domain in a safe mode.

So, basically, we could build any solution for you and your website so you can achieve the wanted functionality and performance. Just reach out to us and we’ll be happy to read your story, and your vision and provide the best solution. That’s how we see our projects: as different stories. For instance, a photographer attends to people’s important life moments and captures their joy and happiness in well-balanced shots. A photographer is part of the story. For us, every project is a new challenge, a story that deserves to be tackled. Some of our development stories are published under the tagDiv Portfolio page.

Please note that if you want a quotation for your project, you need to Submit Your Request and provide as many details as you can, so we can better understand your requirements. My colleagues Alina and Bogdan are the ones who’ll greet you and explain every step of the collaboration between you and our software company.

Web Developer skills

So, what is a web developer?

Being a web developer, a front-end developer, coder, programmer (or any other title related to web development) encompasses many distinct skills. One of them is the analytical, logical mind. Then, the love for maths and numbers and the ability to rethink things to make them a whole. When you say web development, you usually think of writing code lines.

According to Wikipedia, “a web developer is a programmer who specializes in or is specifically engaged in the development of World Wide Web applications using a client–server model. The applications typically use HTML, CSS, and JavaScript in the client, PHP, ASP.NET (C#), Python or Java on the server, and HTTP for communications between client and server. A web content management system is often used to develop and maintain web applications.” Shortly, the web developer is the one handling the code behind a website.

Also, a web developer can be defined as a frontend, backend, or full-stack developer. When you refer to a front-end developer, you must know he is the person that brings a client’s design to the table; he writes the code needed to implement it on the web. A decent front-end web developer will be fluent in at least three programming languages – HTML, CSS, and JavaScript;” says BitDegree in their article on understanding what web development is. The backend developers write the codes and create the programs that control the site’s server, databases, and every app involved in the process. And finally, the full-stack developer works with both backend and frontend development methods. See how IT companies use web development technologies in a 2022 survey from TechBehemoths.

Understanding of web designer’s skills

A web designer knows everything about negative space, fonts, color-matching, image resolutions, contrast, responsive designs, and best user experience practices. Mixed up with talent, and constantly seeking inspiration, a web designer gets a brilliant idea out of simple things and transforms it into an iconic figure. The Interaction Design Foundation described a web designer as the one touching the site’s appearance, layout, and sometimes parts of the content. “Appearance, for instance, relates to the colors, font, and images used. Layout refers to how information is structured and categorized.”

Mintyside PRO: intro

A blog can be anything from reporting on the latest trending topics (celebrities, politics, entertainment, finance, news coverage), delivering trusted information to technological and scientific developments. Even more, you can keep a daily blog as a recollection of memories, experiences, and tutorials for readers to enjoy. The Newspaper Mintyside PRO demo allows you to turn your website into the blog of your dreams.

With a wide-set layout, a grey background that goes perfectly with the turquoise accent colors, it embodies a feeling of freshness and energy. Combining a sans-serif font with a serif one and dividing the page into three columns, it leaves the viewers feeling like they’re reading an actual physical newspaper.

By importing your featured images and content, your articles will be the center of the homepage. Monetizing your blog should also be a breeze with the Newspaper Theme’s ad box and Newsletter subscription block. Award your long-time readers and entice the new ones to subscribe and send them weekly notifications about your most important blog posts.

Installing Mintyside PRO demo

Version 10.3.6 of Newspaper Theme came bundled up with various new demos: Magazine PRO, Lifestyle PRO, Scuba PRO, Retro Blog PRO, and Mintyside PRO. If you need more information about that, there’s an in-depth tutorial on how to update your Newspaper Theme.

Mintyside PRO demo Single Post Template

To install the Mintyside PRO demo, you need to access your WordPress Admin Dashboard. From there, navigate to Newspaper Theme > Install Demos. Scroll down the page to find the one you’re looking for and hover over it to choose between:

  • Design Only lets you import only the templates, colors, fonts, homepage.
  • With content comes with all the sample content: the categories and posts are included in the import.

The main difference between the two of them is the fact that once you uninstall the demo and install another one, the sample content (categories & posts) are also removed from the website. If you already have content of your own, it’s best to go with “Design Only.”

Header Adjustments

One of the first things you should do after installing the demo is to make changes that showcase your brand and what the blog’s all about. Go to the homepage and open it through the tagDiv Composer. In the header section, click on the Logo element and upload your pre-designed logo as an image, copy and paste it as a SVG code or even create a new one with text and fonts.

Edit the Logo

The next item on the agenda is the main menu. Click on it, and from the General Settings tab, choose a menu you’ve created using the WordPress widget. You can always create a new one from the Admin Dashboard > Appearance > Menus.

Scroll down the page to change the logo and menu for the sticky header, too. And last but not least, using the device bar of the tagDiv Composer, click on the mobile view and change the logo and menu for the mobile device and mobile sticky.

Author Template Mintyside PRO

Let’s tackle the Homepage

When you open the page with the tagDiv Composer you need to filter or offset Flex Blocks. To do this, click on one of them and travel to the Filter tabs. Now, sort the articles by author, categories, tags, or even by ID. From the General Tab, you can add an offset by inputting a number in the box.

On the right column, you have an ad box that can show your affiliates’ ad image. Upload the photo you want to use in the Image ad tab and write the URL. Scrolling down, you have more Flex Blocks elements and a Subscription box, and to the left side of it, a Background Image set on column. The background image can be replaced by navigating to the Column > CSS tab and then choosing a different image.

Edit the Subscription Box

The subscription box also needs your Mailchimp / Feedburner / MailerLite code. From the General tab, choose your provider and copy-paste the embedded code in the box. Right below this, you have another ad box that you can replace with a different image and URL. The rest of the page only contains one more flex block and a Posts Loop. The Flex block can be filtered or offsetted according to what you wish to show. Save your settings!

Templates

The most important part of adjusting your Cloud Library Templates is to showcase different articles through the flex blocks used on them. And just like above, you can filter or offset them. This applies to all the templates, so just hit the “Edit Template” button and make your adjustments.

Moreover, on the 404 Template, you need to add a URL that leads back to your homepage. So just copy and paste the website’s link to the button. The Author and Single Post Template have an ad box that needs to be replaced, too. Once you’re done, save your settings!

Category Template

Market your site’s originality

If you want to change the demo’s layout, colors, fonts, you need a plan in mind. Take a look at our typography guide to understand the basics of contrast, tracking, and font-weight. Then choose fonts that are web-safe from the online gallery of Google Fonts. Now when you open a page or template through the tagDiv Composer, you can easily alter the fonts by going into the “Style” tab.

For colors, you need a primary and an accent color to create contrast and highlight important items. To better understand color complementaries, monochromatic and analogous schemes, you should learn the basics of Color Theory. With a color palette in mind, replace the colors on your templates and pages using the Style tab of the elements.

And last but not least, the magical tagDiv Composer allows you to make any layout alterations you need. They all can be done on the front-end by dragging and dropping items in the desired order. Create new rows, columns, adjust paddings, margins, and even borders. Once you have everything perfectly aligned, save your settings!

Conclusions

Whether you want to modify the demo to fit your vision or not, Mintyside PRO is capable of adapting to any type of blog. Everything can be adjusted right on the frontend, without any HTML or CSS skills/knowledge, so building your site is a breeze. Newspaper Theme’s PRO demos are entirely customizable from top to bottom. Once you hit that install demo button, the layout is perfect from the get-go! And remember, content is king.
